the last nap
of the year

on the neighbor's roof -
her first smile since Christmas

just past noon
mom's shoveling wakens
the cranky collegian

between holidays -
tripping over
an almost-empty suitcase

wrapping
wrapping, wrapping –
she pastes on a smile

“easy to assemble”
I put it back and
grab a teddybear

constructing the creche --
the Baby's Name uttered
over and over

first doubts
santa sounds like
uncle Al
